All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Mutuals to lead mutual sector in responding to Law Commission review of co-op law

13 November 2023 | News

Speaking at the FTT Mutuals conference, Gareth Thomas MP today announced that the APPG for Mutuals will spearhead a major campaign to co-ordinate a cross mutual sector response to the Law Commission’s review of the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

Starting in January 2024 for six months, the APPG will conduct hearings where the sector will be invited to come together, forming a new coalition of mutual organisations of all types across all industries, to lay out the case for modern and fit for purpose legislation.

The information gathered will be used in a report submitted to the Law Commission’s review on behalf of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Mutuals.

As the Secretariat for the APPG, Mutuo will help facilitate and organise arrangements for the sector to come together and participate in this once in a lifetime review.

Further details of the programme of meetings in Parliament will be published in the new year.
