Sir Mark Hendrick MP led the landmark piece of legislation through the House of Commons.
It’s the law!
Today we celebrate the completion of the Parliamentary journey for Sir Mark Hendrick MP’s Co-operatives, Mutuals and Friendly Societies Bill (now the Co-operatives Mutuals and Friendly Societies Act 2023).
The support from all Parties in both Houses of Parliament shows what can be achieved when we work together.
Parliamentarians Sir Mark Hendrick MP and Rt Hon Lord Roy Kennedy skilfully steered this landmark legislation to remove the incentives for demutualisation.
It’s significant. It’s progressive. It’s historic. It’s also the sixth Private Members Bill modernising UK mutual legislation from the Mutuo team.
It’s a 100% record for us helping pass legislation improving the regulatory landscape for co-operatives and mutuals and we couldn’t be prouder. A massive thank you to everyone that helped.
